Henk Wabeke
Former Head of Field Development , Shell
Independent Consultant
Henk Wabeke graduated with a MSc in Civil Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in 1980 and immediately joined Shell International in Brunei, working as an offshore Construction Engineer, Project Engineer and Design Engineer as a first posting in a long and successful Shell career.
Postings in the Netherlands (Project Manager, Appraisal Engineer/Economist) and the Sultanate of Oman (Engineering Teamleader) followed, before a cross-posting in graduate recruitment brought him back to Central Offices in The Hague. This broadening assignment was followed by a liaison role in Technology Development before he moved overseas again: this time as a Shell secondee in Woodside, Australia, as the head of front end planning for the North West Shelf expansion (trains 3 and 4).
In 2000 Henk became Manager of the Shell E&P Learning Centre in the Netherlands, before devoting all his time to (front-end) project consultancy throughout the Shell Group of Companies. Soon he was appointed Head of Field Development, in which role he established the Shell project management doctrine, wrote the Shell book of project management best practice, and set the standard for topics such as Risk Management, Project Health Checks, Value Engineering, Project Quality Assurance and -Control, ‘Opportunity Framing' and Concept Identification and -Selection.
Henk retired from Shell in 2009, and started his own company ‘IASDEO'. He now spends his time consulting to projects in the front end, all over the world.
